Voice Layers, Wild Sounds

The people of Tuva (a tiny republic in south-central Siberia) bring their unique throat singing technique to Mercer County this month when the Arts Council of Princeton hosts “Alash” in concert on March 11 at 8 pm.

This ancient tradition developed among the nomads of Central Asia. These were people whose deep, spiritual relationship with nature was reflected in their unusual singing techniques which mimicked or complemented sounds of the natural world — birds, animals, streams, the wind.
