Juried Photographic Exhibition

July 9- August 8 Opening Reception July 9: 6-8 PM

Gallery 14 invites artists working in all photographic media to submit works for a juried photographic exhibition which will be held July 9-August 8 at Gallery 14, 14 Mercer Street, Hopewell, NJ. Current members of Gallery 14 may NOT participate.

Judge: Kenneth Kaplowitz, Professor of Art at TCNJ (39 years), where he was Photography Coordinator for 21 years. He has a BA, Montclair University, an MA (Television and Film) from NYU, and an MFA (Sculpture and Studio Art) from Rutgers University. His photographic work appeared in two photography text books as well as 40 one-person exhibitions.

Submission Guidelines

1. Include 1.) cover sheet with the artist's name, home address, phone number and email address, 2.) a brief biography/resume, 3.) a numbered list of the photographs submitted, a CD with up to 5 JPEG images (4" x 6" at 300 dpi) (no other forms of submissions will be considered). Be sure to write your name on the CD.

2. The numbered list of titles of the photographs must correspond exactly in number and name with those on the CD. Please use the following format for titling your electronic files: your name_ number_ photo title_ framed dimensions_year created. For example : SmithJ_1_Evening on the River_16x20_2007.

3. Mail submissions to Gallery 14, 14 Mercer Street, Hopewell, NJ 08525. All submissions must include an entry fee of $20, check payable to Gallery 14. You may also drop off your submission packet to the gallery during our regular hours: Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 5 pm. Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope if you wish to have your CD returned.

Entrants will be notified of the juror’s decision by email after June 22. Photographs selected for exhibit must be brought to the Gallery ready for hanging on July 5 and 6 between 1-3 and 6-8 PM. Size of framed prints must correspond exactly to the size stated in your submission—no exceptions. Gallery 14 will make every reasonable effort to protect your work while it is in our possession, but is not legally responsible for it. Insure your work individually if that is a concern. The Gallery retains a 30% commission of work sold while on display there. A Call for Works — PHOTOGRAPHY 29
Perkins Center for the Arts announces “PHOTOGRAPHY 29”, a juried exhibition of photographs by regional artists, professional, student and amateur, at the Perkins Center ’s Moorestown Gallery. This year's juror is Julia Dolan, H.W. Goldsmith Curatorial Fellow in Photography, Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Work must be hand delivered on Friday, January 8 between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm; or on Sunday, January 10 between Noon and 4:00 pm. Artists may enter up to three works at an entry fee of $8 per piece (for the full calendar, download a prospectus.)

“PHOTOGRAPHY 29” opens January 31 and runs through March 7, 2010.
Opening Reception: Sunday, January 31 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Awards include up to 6 Juror Awards totaling $600 for Artistic Excellence of and exhibited works will be offered to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for their photography collection with a Maximum Purchase award of $600.

Time to Focus

Although entries for the 2010 Voices of the Marsh photography exhibition are not due until April 2 of next year, photographers should keep in mind that all photographs submitted need to be taken within the borders of the Hamilton-Trenton-Bordentown Marsh. This regional treasure-trove of botanical, geographic, ornithological, and environmental diversity is one of the vast unsung jewels of the County, and is celebrated every other year in the Voices... exhibition, held by the Friends of the Marsh. Better still, participate in one of the organized canoe or field trips organized by the Friends (info under the Events link on their website), or bring a friend and a camera and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful place on your own.

In Depth: opportunity for printmakers and photographers

From the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA (it's close...really!) an exhibition opportunity for printmakers and photographers that looks like a terrific opportunity. In their own words:

In Depth: Printmaking and Photography
Dates: Feb 5, 2010 - Mar 2, 2010
First Friday Opening Reception: Feb. 5, 6-9 pm

As part of Philagraphika 2010, an international festival to be held in the region, this exhibition presents thought-provoking and excellent examples of contemporary hand-pulled prints, photography and digital images by professional artists.

Three notable jurors, Cindi Ettinger, Master Printmaker, Toni Rosati, artist and teacher and Peter Barberie, Curator of Photographs, Alfred Stieglitz Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, will select artists from the region who are pushing the boundaries of printmaking and photography.

Call for Photographers!!!

Mercer County Photography Exhibit 2009 will take place from September 8 - October 8, 2009, at The Gallery at Mercer County Community College. Artists working in all photographic media/process who are 18 years old or older and living, working or attending school in Mercer County, NJ, are eligible to enter up to 3 photographs for consideration.

Jurying for this show is a one-day process, takes place on Saturday, August 29. A full calendar with times is below. The juror for this year's exhibition is Edward Fausty, an award-winning photographer/printmaker with degrees from Yale University and Cooper Union. An NEA Survey Grant recipient in Photography, he has work in many collections, including The George Eastman House, the U.S. Library of Congress, and Yale University.

More than $1,000 in prizes, including the Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission Purchase Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony event which takes place on Wednesday, September 9, from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. The Commission is the sponsor of this biennial exhibit.

Weird NJ Photography Show Call for Entries

Thanks to Amy Sullivan down at the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts www.riverfrontcenter.org down in Millville, NJ, for sharing this notice. It's for all you photographers out there (I haven't forgotten you!) And some of you (you know who you are!) will find this show right up your alley! I'm copying their description and calendar, so you get the full flavor of the exhibit. Contact them directly for a copy of the full prospectus.
"The Noyes Museum of Art and Weird NJ announce a Weird NJ Photography Exhibition to be held at the Noyes Museum. This juried event intends to discover what oddities may be lurking in the woods, under the boardwalk or at the local watering hole all within the state of New Jersey. Our goal is to gather the weirdest photos of New Jersey. What specifies weird? Is it eerie, strange, historic, crazy, unbelievable, tacky, or forbidden? Photos will be selected for their originality, photographic quality – or just plain weirdness."
